Duke basketball: Ranking all 27 Blue Devils in the NBA this season
By Matt Giles
Ranking Duke basketball’s NBA players this season: No. 18 Justise Winslow
- Age: 25
- Current team: Memphis Grizzlies (31-30)
- Games played this season: 22
- Games started: Zero
- Season averages: 6.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.7 steals, 0.5 blocks
- Shooting percentages: 34.6 from the field, 13.3 beyond the arc, 62.5 from the foul line
In the past six games, much to the dismay of seemingly the entire fanbase, Justise Winslow has essentially replaced fellow 2015 Duke basketball national champ Tyus Jones as the Memphis Grizzlies’ primary backup to Ja Morant at point guard.
Across this span, which followed Winslow’s 12-game absence while nursing a quad injury, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound point forward has failed to surpass six points or four assists in a game despite the consistent playing time. And the team has gone just 2-4, now in serious danger of slipping from No. 8 in the Western Conference standings with only 11 games remaining on its schedule.
At this point, one would think the coaching staff will consider soon plugging Jones back into his former role. That said, there’s certainly still a chance that Winslow, who is in his first season with the Grizzlies after spending his first five with the Miami Heat, will soon take advantage of the opportunity by finding his groove on offense and maximizing his proven defensive prowess.
