A sign of Duke basketball hope: Patrick Baldwin Jr.’s delay in itself
If Patrick Baldwin Jr. was truly going to play for his father, then it would make sense for him to have long since made his decision public by now.
After all, coming off his fourth losing campaign in as many seasons at the helm, it would seem as though Pat Baldwin will be fighting to keep his job next go-round. Surely, it would aid those efforts if his son was on the phone trying to persuade a few pieces from the recruiting trail and transfer portal to team up with him at Milwaukee.
Yet that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Rather, as the days continue to pass by without an announcement from the younger Baldwin, the more it feels — at least from the outside — like the Duke basketball coaches are reemerging as frontrunners for the phenom they have officially targeted for almost three years now.
Granted, there has been chatter about Georgetown gaining ground in recent weeks; therefore, this delay should excite the Hoyas a bit as well. However, it’s still worth pointing out that essentially every insider article about Baldwin has mentioned the Blue Devils as a bonafide force in the recruitment ever since the Duke offer arrived in July 2018.
Finally, some recent announcements in Durham might factor into the equation here at the last minute…
