Predicted 2021-22 Duke basketball starting shooting guard: DJ Steward

Despite landing on the ACC All-Freshman Team and scoring 16 points in Chapel Hill this weekend, DJ Steward was far from brilliant in either his last outing or between his entire collection of rookie outings thus far.

On the other hand, Steward has sometimes resembled a potent scorer, alert defender, and inspired rebounder on his way to averaging 13.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game as an undersized two-guard. Also, outside of Matthew Hurt, Steward has been Duke’s most reliable shooter as, sadly, the only other active one hitting more than a third of his 3-point attempts.

Now, if the Chicago native can both sharpen his handles and shore up his passing deficiencies — the latter, as noted with Jeremy Roach, shouldn’t be too difficult considering the duo of heralded forwards coming up next in this predicted lineup — folks ought to expect a starrier showing from a sophomore Steward…
