ACC All-Freshman Team candidate: Duke basketball point guard Jeremy Roach

Overall, across his first 19 games as a Blue Devil, Duke basketball rookie Jeremy Roach has not been brilliant. However, considering the shoes that the former five-star prep out of Virginia was essentially tasked to fill — see: 2020 ACC Player of the Year Tre Jones — his tenacity and willingness to learn from his mistakes have certainly been admirable.

The 6-foot-1 floor general has drawn 14 starts, including a stretch of five in a row at the moment. Currently, he’s averaging 9.3 points, 2.8 assists, 2.4 rebounds, 0.9 steals, and 2.2 turnovers in 28.8 minutes per contest while shooting 45.9 percent from the field, 29.9 percent beyond the arc, and 68.8 percent from the charity stripe.

Yet the pace of the college game appears to have significantly slowed for Jeremy Roach in the past few games while his confidence has soared. As of late, he has put on scoring clinics at times; also, he has ramped up his efforts as a distributor. Between Duke’s home wins over Syracuse and then-No. 7 Virginia, he averaged 13.0 points and 5.0 assists while shooting 6-for-10 from downtown.
