Ranking the 11 Duke basketball contributors through 11 games
By Matt Giles
5. Duke basketball freshman guard Jeremy Roach
GAME AVERAGES: 28.9 minutes, 9.1 points, 2.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds, 0.9 steals, 0.0 blocks, 2.5 turnovers, 2.7 fouls
SHOOTING PERCENTAGES: 42.4 percent from the field, 21.1 percent from beyond the arc, 66.7 percent from the foul line
SEASON-HIGH STATS: 38 minutes at Pitt on Jan. 19, 22 points at Virginia Tech on Jan. 12, five rebounds (twice), seven assists vs. Illinois on Dec. 8, two steals (thrice), four turnovers (twice), five fouls (twice)
OVERALL ASSESSMENT: Jeremy Roach has been on a short leash as of late. But except for the Jones brothers, frequent doghouse trips have been the norm for recent first-year guards under Mike Krzyzewski (see: Trevon Duval, Frank Jackson, Derryck Thornton). While Roach hasn’t lived up to five-star expectations and lacks some floor-general traits, he has shown some potent flashes.
CURRENT GRADE: 82 (B-)
