3. Duke basketball freshman forward Jalen Johnson
GAME AVERAGES: 22.1 minutes, 12.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.1 steals, 1.8 blocks, 2.8 turnovers, 2.8 fouls
SHOOTING PERCENTAGES: 56.5 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from beyond the arc, 60.7 percent from the foul line
SEASON-HIGH STATS: 35 minutes vs. Coppin State on Nov. 28, 24 points at Pitt on Jan. 19, 19 rebounds vs. Coppin State, seven assists at Pitt, three steals vs. Georgia Tech on Jan. 26, four blocks (twice), seven turnovers vs. Coppin State, five fouls at Pitt
OVERALL ASSESSMENT: Looking at Jalen Johnson’s stats per 40 minutes, it is clear the projected one-and-done lottery pick is headed for greatness, though not necessarily as a Blue Devil. When healthy, dialed in, and not racking up silly fouls and turnovers, the 6-foot-9, 220-pound athlete is an absolute game-changer on both ends of the floor. It’s just time to turn up the consistency dial.
CURRENT GRADE: 89 (B+)
