A legendary analyst ignored a phone call from Duke basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski.

When Duke basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski calls you, you pick up the phone…unless you are legendary ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale.

Vitale was appearing on ‘STUFFED‘, a streaming show hosted by CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, when the former head coach of the Detroit Pistons got the call from Krzyzewski.

Rothstein shared a clip of the moment, and it’s quite funny how Vitale ignored the Hall of Famer in order to finish his interview, but not before some technical difficulties interrupted the connection between the two college basketball reporters.

Granted, Vitale did say he would call Mike Krzyzewski back as soon as the episode was over, but it provided a funny moment that all could enjoy.

No. 20 Duke (3-2, 1-0 ACC) was scheduled to face the Pittsburgh Panthers on Tuesday night, but the game had to be postponed after COVID-19 positive tests within Pittsburgh’s program, which marked the fourth opponent who had virus issues before playing the Blue Devils, forcing the game to either be canceled or postponed.

Duke basketball head coach could have been updating the status of star freshman

Since Jon Rothstein tweeted out the clip, the questions now shift to the topic of Krzyzewski’s phone call to Vitale.

Was Coach K calling just to catch up with his longtime friend? Did he have news to share following the intrasquad scrimmage Duke had in place of its postponed game?

Could the phone call have been related to the health of Duke star freshman Jalen Johnson, who was seen without a walking boot at the Blue Devils’ practice this morning?

Vitale was on the broadcast the day after Johnson’s injury was announced when play-by-play commentator Bob Wischusen said that the Duke head coach told them the five-star freshman would be reevaluated in a few weeks when the timeline of the injury would be known.

Nothing has since been announced surrounding the status of Jalen Johnson.

Perhaps Dick Vitale will be the color analyst when the Blue Devils take the floor again against No. 18 Florida State on Saturday, January 2 (8:00pm EST, ESPN2), and we will learn a little more about the conversation.
