Five gifts the Duke basketball program needs for Christmas
Duke basketball Christmas gift: Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Trevor Keels
Well, we covered just about all that ails the 2020-21 version of the Duke Blue Devils, so let’s look ahead to the 2021-22 Blue Devils.
Mike Krzyzewski already has landed two commitments from Top-10 recruits Paolo Banchero and Adrian Griffin Jr., but the 73-year-old is out on the prowl for two more prospects, Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Trevor Keels.
Baldwin Jr. is ranked as a five-star prospect and the No. 3 overall player in the Class of 2021 while Keels is also a five-star recruit and No. 18 player in the class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
The recruiting tool lists the Blue Devils as the current favorite to land both prospects, potentially capping off yet another No. 1 recruiting class, but there is some stiff competition for both players.
Baldwin Jr. cut his choice of schools down to ten in May; Duke, North Carolina, UCLA, Virginia, Michigan, Kentucky, Georgetown, Northwestern, Milwaukee, and Wisconsin but just suffered what appears to be a season-ending ankle injury.
The Sussex Hamilton (Wis.) star is targeting to make his college decision in February or March.
As for Trevor Keels, he has trimmed his list down to three; Duke, Virginia, and Villanova.
At some point this summer each program has been pegged as the favorite to land the shooting guard but no timeline has been discussed on a potential commitment.
Yes, we said this was a list of five gifts the Duke basketball program needs for Christmas, but let’s call it six gifts given the duo of Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Trevor Keels potentially being under the tree inside Cameron Indoor Stadium.
