Five Duke basketball players likely to bolt after season

Current Duke basketball talent likely to leave come spring: Jordan Goldwire
Of all the players on this list of projected Duke basketball departures, Jordan Goldwire might have the best chance of sticking around. That said, the probability of the senior from Georgia saying no thanks to the NCAA-granted extra year of eligibility seems slightly higher at this point than the probability of the 21-year-old serving as a fifth-year Blue Devil.
While it wouldn’t be a smart bet, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Goldwire could earn a spot on an NBA roster next year as a dogged perimeter defender who comes off the bench to bedevil opponents. Also, factor in that the former three-star prep could take his menacing D, improving offense, and overall leadership to another school as a graduate transfer.
Most of Goldwire’s numbers this season aren’t eye-popping. After all, his 3-point accuracy has dipped to a lousy 28.6 percent. Yet his averages of 30.2 minutes, 6.6 points, 3.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.4 steals are all upgrades from his previous campaigns. So there’s no doubt the 6-foot-2, 185-pound combo guard would be an asset if he chose to return. Just don’t bank on it.
