Duke basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski will not reach a certain milestone this season.

There isn’t much Duke basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski has not achieved in his college basketball career.

The all-time wins leader continues to add to his impressive mark, and he continues to pick up little milestones every so often.

However, this year will be different.

Krzyzewski sits at 99 wins against Top-10 teams in his career. He’s already missed two chances, against No. 8 Michigan State and No. 6 Illinois, to reach the mark, and he will not get that elusive 100th win over a Top-10 team this season.

Duke will only play conference games for the remainder of the season, and it looks like the ACC is in the midst of a rebuilding year.

One of the reasons why Coach K will not pick up that 100th win over a Top-10 team is because he might not get another chance.

In the most recent Associated Press Top-25 Poll, the Florida State Seminoles are the highest-ranked team in the conference at No. 15 while the Virginia Cavaliers sit at No. 17.

Duke’s next game against a ranked team is against the Seminoles on January 2, and Florida State has meetings with Georgia Tech, UCF, and No. 24 Clemson before hosting the Blue Devils.

But Leonard Hamilton‘s team could jump five spots in the next two weeks before facing off against Duke for the only time this season.

And Virginia could also find themselves as a Top-10 team again when playing Duke, all the way on February 20 in Durham.

Other reasons why the Duke basketball head coach won’t reach his milestone.

Aside from potentially not playing Top-10 teams for the remainder of the season, have the Blue Devils shown anything that proves they are capable of defeating a Top-10 team?

The performances against Michigan State and Illinois weren’t nearly good enough to defeat a Top-10 team, so could Duke defeat Florida State on the road or Virginia at home?

That remains to be seen, but the factors are continuing to work against Mike Krzyzewski in his quest for win No. 100 against a Top-10 team this season.

Duke will return to the court against Notre Dame for its first road game and first ACC game on Wednesday, December 16 at 9:00pm EST (ESPN).
