How Duke basketball tops Illinois: Contain Ayo Dosunmu

Illinois has one of the best and most dynamic guards in the country in Ayo Dosunmu. The 6-foot-5 junior is averaging just under 24 points per game and has been their leading scorer in all four of their games. Dosunmu really has no glaring weaknesses in his game. He can score on all three levels, can be an effective distributor, and can bring it on the defensive end as well.

I would think either Wendell Moore or Jordan Goldwire assumes the task of defending Dosunmu for the Blue Devils. Goldwire may be giving up a few inches, but he has the lateral quickness to get up under Dosumnu and speed him up. Plus, Goldwire is Duke’s best on-ball defender and has the ability to disrupt the rhythm of Dosunmu.

If nothing else, Duke has force Dosunmu into contested shots and keep him off the foul line. The Blue Devils have to make someone else beat them offensively…
