A brief history of Duke basketball’s recent dominance over Michigan State

The three Duke basketball games against Michigan State from 2010 to 2013

2010 – Duke and Michigan State met in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke won the game, 84-79. The Blue Devils were led by freshman sensation and current NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving, who had 31 points. Michigan State featured players like Draymond Green and Kalin Lucas.

2011 – The 2011-12 season marked the debut of the Champions Classic. Duke and MSU met in Madison Square Garden and helped establish what is now a great college basketball tradition. Duke won the game, 74-69, behind a 26-point effort from Andre Dawkins and 20 points from Seth Curry. This was a historic victory for Coach K. It was the legend’s 903rd win, which set the Division I men’s basketball record.

2013 – The Blue Devils and Spartans did not meet in the regular season, but they did face off in the Sweet 16 in 2013. Once again, Duke basketball came out on top, beating Michigan State to advance to the Elite Eight. Seth Curry had a masterful performance with 29 points and six 3-pointers. MSU had a talented team that season, led by Gary Harris, Denzel Valentine, Keith Appling, and Adreian Payne.
