Predicting the final score of the fifth Duke basketball game this season

Opponent: Elon Phoenix

Date: Dec. 6

Time: 12 p.m. EST (ACCN)

Location: Durham, N.C. (Cameron Indoor Stadium)

Elon’s record last season: 13-21 (7-11 in CAA)

Head coach: Mike Schrage (13-21 overall in one season as a head coach, which came last season at Elon)

Why Duke will win: Mike Schrage has compiled some upgraded pieces for the Phoenix, but many of the best players are freshmen and sophomores. In other words, Schrage’s inexperienced club won’t be the non-conference opponent on Duke’s schedule to capitalize on the inexperience of the Blue Devils. In a year or two, one might expect Elon to emerge as a Cinderella, but there will be no such fairytale ending in Cameron Indoor Stadium this year.

Predicted final score: Duke 88, Elon 66

Duke’s predicted overall record to date: 4-1 (0-0 in ACC)
