Halloween costume for Duke basketball big man Patrick Tapé…

ANTONIO LANG (1990-94)

We dig a little further back for this comparison and this choice of costume to wear. Antonio Lang was buried on the depth chart of some absolutely STACKED Duke basketball teams in the early ’90s.

Lang averaged anywhere from five to six points a game in his first three years, but that number exploded to 12.5 a game with more playing time in his senior campaign. More than his point total, what the Blue Devils loved about Lang was his spark and his energy that he often brought off the bench.

Grad transfer big man Patrick Tapé will look to have that same kind of impact. As a grizzled vet, he should be able to bring calmness and order off the bench for his younger teammates. His body type and style of play are very similar to Antonio Lang’s as well, with both players standing around 6-foot-9.

Tapé does have about 25 pounds on Lang, however, so he should be key in providing interior rebounds and toughness. And on a final note, Tapé averaged six points a game for his career at Columbia.

If Tapé can embrace the ghost of Antonio Lang and increase his production to 12.5 points per game, then Duke could run opposing teams out of the gym…
