A peppy Duke basketball motion picture is coming soon to a device near you.

Several weeks ago, Mike Krzyzewski explained in a video clip on social media that the program’s creative team was putting together something special for Countdown to Craziness this year. Obviously, the 41st-year Duke basketball head coach made the promise with the understanding that fans packed into the Cameron Indoor Stadium stands would not be an option this go-round.

Now, it has become a bit more clear what the plan is for the annual celebration of Duke basketball.

But it doesn’t appear as if there will be a live show, at all, to broadcast past Blue Devil accomplishments and introduce the 2020-21 squad, even though there is an abundance of new faces in Durham: grad transfer Patrick Tapé plus freshmen Jeremy Roach, DJ Steward, Jalen Johnson, Jaemyn Brakefield, Henry Coleman, and Mark Williams.

Rather, as the official Twitter account of Duke basketball teased on Thursday, a feature film is in the works, to be titled, Countdown: The Movie.

What all could the Duke basketball flick include?

There’s no word yet on either the exact length of the picture or a premiere date. Yet one should conclude from past Countdown to Craziness spectacles that there will be tons of footage of the players dancing and then participating in a Blue-White Scrimmage.

Seeing that the 12-year-old event has historically taken place two or three weeks before the first game of the season, one might expect the movie’s release date to fall within the first half of November since the Blue Devils are set to begin their season on Nov. 25 at home against Gardner-Webb.

While it’s conceivable the movie could end up on ESPN or some other network, it seems more likely that it will just be made available across the program’s social media accounts.

Speaking of the program’s social media accounts, past content suggests that Countdown: The Movie will be highly entertaining and spare no expense when it comes to creativity. Plus, considering the Duke basketball social media accounts have drawn more followers than any other college program — including football — the film is sure to be a blockbuster success.

A recruiting tool, for sure.
