Former Duke golf standout Kevin Streelman is in contention at The CJ Cup but not close to the leader.

Typically after two rounds of a golf tournament, a player would love to be T-8, but at The CJ Cup at Shadow Creek, T-8 gets you eight shots off the lead.

That is the exact position former Blue Devil Kevin Streelman is in following his second round in Las Vegas on Friday afternoon.

Streelman followed up his four-under, 68, in Round 1 with a two-under, 70, in Round 2 of the event.

Kevin Streelman started his round on the back nine and immediately got off to a good start with a par and a birdie as the 41-year old also birdied No. 18, his ninth hole of the day, to make the turn at two-under.

However, Streelman would give a shot back at No. 1 with a bogey but earned it right back with a birdie at No. 2.

Pars were carded until No. 6, where the Dukie had to drop a shot with another bogey but gained that shot right back on his final hole of the day at No. 9 with a birdie on the Par-4.

Sitting a six-under for the tournament, Kevin Streelman is tied with Justin Thomas, Lanto Griffin, Tyler Duncan, and Hideki Matsuyama as the entire leaderboard is looking up at Xander Schauffele, who is 14-under par after 36 holes of golf.

Adam Long, another former Blue Devil in the event, gets lucky with the tournament not having a cut line after posting a six-over effort in Round 1 and responding with an even-par round on Friday.

Long is currently T-66 with Alex Noren, Brendon Todd, Tae Hee Lee, and Jeon-Gwoo Ham.

Tee times will soon be released for Saturday as Kevin Streelman looks to try and cut into Schauffele’s lead while Long will try and get back to even par by the end of the tournament on Sunday.
