The most hated Duke basketball faces: Jon Scheyer

5. player. 2006-10. Jon Scheyer. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Guard. 434

The quirky demeanor of Jon Scheyer as a Blue Devil, along with the national title he won as a senior while anchoring the point, made the brainy player a magnet for various insults from folks across the country. Now, more than 10 years after graduation, the hostility is picking back up in light of his current job.

First, as a 6-foot-5, 190-pound combo guard in Durham for four seasons, he exhibited some awfully dorky facial expressions that Duke fans cherished but that many anti-Dukies found to be too much to stomach. Plus, the way in which he 100 percent bought in with Mike Krzyzewski’s gameplans and philosophies was also too much for haters to watch without cracking jokes.

Nowadays, as the Duke basketball associate head coach, sitting in the chair next to Coach K, Scheyer has become the nation’s No. 1 recruiter. That, of course, makes his name pop up in discussions about who will become the next head coach in Durham. And, of course, that means the hate toward Scheyer could live on for quite some time.

We’ll stick with the theme of sharpshooting guards for the next couple of slides…
