A game time for the Duke football program has been set in an unusual battle between two local teams.

In asking a regular Duke, North Carolina State, or college football fan if the Blue Devils and Wolfpack play almost annually, a large majority of those people would say yes, but that is shockingly not the case.

As the coronavirus pandemic forced schedules to be changed in the ACC and around the country, Duke saw NC State appear on its schedule as the two programs are set to play for the first time since 2013.

The Atlantic Coastal Conference announced that these two teams will be kicking off at 3:30pm EST on Saturday, October 17, and the game can be seen on various Regional Sports Networks.

This will just be the fourth meeting between the Blue Devils and the Wolfpack since 2008, and Duke holds a 41-36-5 all-time lead in the series against North Carolina State.

David Cutcliffe’s program has also won the last two meetings in 2009 and 2013 after losing the previous 14 of 15 matchups.

However, this could be a game where Duke is still looking for its first win of the season as the Blue Devils (0-4) still have a chance to pick up a victory this Saturday against the Syracuse Orange, while the Wolfpack (2-1) upset the Pittsburgh Panthers last Saturday for its second victory.

North Carolina State will travel to face the Virginia Cavaliers this Saturday.

Could the Duke football team have a new starting quarterback against North Carolina State?

It’s certainly possible that Chase Brice is no longer the starting quarterback for the Blue Devils if the offense has another bad showing against the Orange this week.

Many have already called for Cutcliffe to pull Brice in favor of Gunnar Holmberg as the transfer quarterback from Clemson came to Durham with high expectations but has not lived up to the hype in his first handful of games at Duke.

Should Duke come away with a victory against Syracuse, it will almost certainly be Chase Brice back under center, unless Holmberg is inserted to replace Brice and leads the Blue Devils to a win.

Duke and Syracuse kickoff at 12:30pm EST on Saturday, October 10 on RSN.
