Duke basketball must ensure Countdown to Craziness is no dud this go-round.

Without Duke basketball’s Cameron Crazies on hand, there’s really no point in the program putting on a 2020-21 Countdown to Craziness at all, right? Wrong.

For one, the annual event provides a way to rev up the fanbase while also formally introducing all the new faces, which there are seven of this year (six freshmen plus one grad transfer).

Furthermore, it’s a major recruiting tool. And though recruits cannot take official visits this season until January at the earliest, they are sure to either tune in via some ESPN channel to catch the action or check out the official Duke basketball social media accounts for highlights of the players dancing, scrimmaging, and whatnot.

Well, it seems the staff in Durham is already at work devising a plan for this rendition of the Duke basketball family spectacle. On Saturday evening, the program tweeted a message from head coach Mike Krzyzewski that certainly sounds optimistic in regards to some version of Craziness — and a season in general, for that matter — ultimately taking place:

“Hopefully, we can figure out a season here and how we’re gonna play…It’s a little bit chaotic right now based on what the NCAA put out and, of course, in this uncertain environment…And we’re gonna try to do something with Countdown eventually, just so you know that. Because we’re anxious to share this with all our Duke fans. That’s what has made this so much fun.”

Social media is sure to play a major part in Duke basketball’s CTC plans

With more than four million followers between its official social media accounts, Duke basketball more than doubles the amount of any other college program, regardless of sport. One obvious reason is the originality that is evident in every episode of Duke Blue Planet — now, Devilish as well, as seen in the premiere below — plus every post and tweet the team delivers nowadays.

In other words, expect the creative Blue Devil minds to enhance efforts even further on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube this year in order to guarantee Countdown to Craziness again outshines its competition across the nation.
