Potential 2023 Duke basketball recruiting targets: Simeon Wilcher

  • Current position: Point guard
  • Height: 6-foot-4
  • Weight: 165 pounds
  • Initial rating: Five stars
  • Overall ranking: No. 7

Sticking with the theme of slick backcourt prospects who evidently wish to add the Blue Devils to their offer sheet, enter Roselle Catholic (N.J.) point guard Simeon Wilcher, a five-star who already holds offers from the likes of Kansas, Miami, Auburn, and Xavier (where his brother, CJ Wilcher, is set to debut this season).

In addition to recently listing Duke as one of four high-profile programs he hopes will reach out soon, Wilcher briefly explained to Travis Branham of 247Sports the respect he has for the program’s coaching legend:

“I have been wanting to hear from Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Memphis…It’s Duke and coach [Mike] Krzyzewski, one of the best coaches ever.”

As for what Wilcher has to offer, here’s how the 6-foot-4, 165-pound lightning playmaker described his own game to Branham:

“I take pride in defense. Something my dad always tells me is if I work on the defensive side, then it will work for me on the offensive side…always defense first. Then, I take care of the offensive side. I like to play inside the lane, I can shoot it really well, but my game is to drive and kick, play defense, and to make sure my teammates and myself get the right shots.”

Sounds like a winner, especially to Duke basketball fans who appreciate defense and have seen a few spectacular New Jersey point guards in Durham over the years, namely Bobby Hurley and Jason Williams. On the other hand, Wilcher’s size and versatility suggest he could end up at the three-spot by the time his prep days come to a close (some already list him as a combo guard).

Now, let’s move on to a 2023 big man, one who already has a clear connection to Duke basketball in the form of his older brother…
