Potential 2023 Duke basketball recruiting targets: Bronny James

  • Current position: Combo guard
  • Height: 6-foot-2
  • Weight: 175 pounds
  • Initial rating: Four stars
  • Overall 247Sports ranking: No. 30

All three of the players on this list are guards (not true for the wildcard pick at the end, though). Yet that could certainly change for a couple of them after they fill out and potentially undergo another growth spurt.

Sierra Canyon (Calif.) four-star LeBron James Jr., aka Bronny James, is one example. He could transform into a forward, particularly if he sprouts to the degree his legendary namesake did at his age. Remember, LeBron James was just a slender 6-footer entering high school, only to become a 6-foot-6, 200-pound force by the end of his sophomore year; nowadays, he’s 6-9, 250.

Currently, however, Bronny James is a combo guard with arguably more fame than anyone in the 2023 class. While the attention is largely due to his name, the 15-year-old backs it up with a high-octane motor on defense and a promising perimeter game on the other end, including a specialty of aggressively attacking the basket.

If nothing else, he’d add to the swagger and popularity of #TheBrotherhood — particularly if King James was a regular behind the bench.

So why might Dukies choose to get their hopes up? Well, not only did his dad get to know Duke basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski while starring under the Hall of Famer at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, winning back-to-back gold medals, but LeBron James has also hinted on social media that he’d like to see his son as a Blue Devil if Coach K is still running the show at the time.

Plus, Bronny James has never been shy when it comes to sporting Duke gear in public. And the Crystal Ball, naturally, already shows Coach K & Co. as the frontrunner.
