Former Duke football star Daniel Jones’ costly interception at the goal line dropped the New York Giants in Week One.

It was arguably the best drive of the week in the National Football League.

Daniel Jones led the New York Giants on a 19-play drive, converting four third downs and one fourth down, and the G-Men were at the 4-yard line of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Linebacker Bud Dupree put the pressure on the former Blue Devil, and Jones was hit by Dupree as he was trying to throw the ball away, but the hit altered the throw. And the wobbling pass fell right into the hands of Cameron Heyward, ending the promising drive and chance to put the Giants back on top.

Other than that play, it was a very successful night for Daniel Jones despite the Giants’ 26-16 loss to the Steelers.

Jones connected for his first touchdown of the season, and the game, thanks to a dime of a pass to Darius Slayton from 41 yards out that put the Giants up 10-3, but Pittsburgh would then score the next 23 points of the evening.

The former No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft also connected with Slayton again for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter as the Giants tried to mount a late comeback, but New York was not able to convert the 2-point conversion to make it a one-possession game.

Daniel Jones completed 26-of-41 passes for 278 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions against the vaunted Pittsburgh defense as the quarterback also ran four times for 22 yards and was the Giants’ leading rusher on the night.

Jones and the Giants will head to Chicago next week for his second-ever NFL matchup with former North Carolina Tar Heel Mitchell Trubisky and the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
