Duke football gets major news from injured center Jack Wohlabaugh

The Duke football program received very positive news regarding injured center Jack Wohlabaugh.

Days before the season was set to begin for the Duke Blue Devils, the team was hit with the brutal news that starting center Jack Wohlabaugh would be out for the season after suffering an ACL injury in practice.

With transfer quarterback Chase Brice set to be the Week 1 starter, Duke was banking on a veteran duo to set the tone for the Blue Devil offense that was very inconsistent last season.

As the team now adjusts to life without Wohlabaugh, David Cutcliffe and his staff got word this week that Wohlabaugh will return to Durham for his sixth year of eligibility.

The Ohio State transfer released this statement via his Twitter page.

Wohlabaugh was voted as a team captain prior to the 2020 season alongside Deon Jackson, Noah Gray, Michael Carter II, and Chris Rumph II and has played 22 games with the Blue Devils, making 18 starts over the last two seasons.

The center was an All-ACC Honorable Mention selection in 2019 and prior to the 2020 season was named to the Outland Trophy Watch List, which is given to the most outstanding interior lineman in the country by the Football Writers Association of America.

A native of Akron, Ohio, Jack Wohlabaugh was also nominated for the Rimington Trophy, an award that is given to the top center in the nation by the Boomer Esiason Foundation in addition to being a Preseason All-ACC selection by Athlon Sports.

Duke will turn to Will Taylor to fill in for Wohlabaugh in his absence, as he did last season, but the presence of the upperclassman will be missed in trying to make adjustments within the offensive line, taking pressure off of Brice.

The Duke Blue Devils will kick off the season in South Bend, Indiana at Notre Dame Stadium against the Fighting Irish at 2:30pm EST on NBC.
