This potential Duke basketball team would rival the most gifted in history.

Ten scholarship players in all. Seven former McDonald’s All-American selections. Seven former five-star prep prospects. Three former four-stars. Adequate depth at every position. A passionate senior leader and sole captain. A handful of underclassmen with at least some college experience. One of the all-time greatest Duke basketball recruiting classes to boot.

Yes, some of the above features fit the Duke basketball roster for the upcoming season. But they all could describe the predicted bunch here for the program’s 2021-22 campaign. And a large chunk of the work is already complete in compiling what would undoubtedly be an epic squad.

In what would be his 42nd season on the job in Durham — quite possibly his last, especially if this group was to gift him with the option to go out on top at the then-age of 75 by standing atop a ladder while snipping nets in April 2022 — head coach Mike Krzyzewski stands to enjoy his first campaign with 10 guys who ranked among the top 60 in their class as high schoolers.
