Duke basketball: Projecting Vernon Carey Jr.’s NBA potential
The projected NBA production of Duke basketball’s Vernon Carey Jr.
Overall, Vernon Carey Jr. is a very intriguing prospect. He put up incredible numbers during his one season at Duke. We have to remember that Carey is still extremely young and will continue to develop and add to his game as time moves forward.
I am not sure if he has an immediate role and will be an impact player from the moment he steps into the league. I do think there are guys who have a higher upside than Vernon Carey Jr. in this year’s draft. But I also believe he could be a very effective NBA player.
He can be a guy who averages 10+ rebounds, provides double-digit scoring in the low post, and then eventually become a perimeter threat. Unlike all the mystery players in this year’s draft, you know what you’re getting with Carey for the most part. Given his youth and monster freshman season, Vernon Carey Jr. should be a first-round pick.
