Predicting 2021 Duke basketball class after major momentum boost
By Matt Giles
Predicting 2021 Duke basketball signees: TREVOR KEELS
Composite ranking: No. 16 overall, No. 2 among shooting guards, No. 1 in Virginia
Scouting report for Trevor Keels (from Jerry Meyer of 247Sports): “Tremendous physical strength for a shooting guard. Has length as well. Plays a power game but can score from all three levels. Solid ball-handler. Good passer. Has the strength to be a better rebounder. Adequate defender.”
Finalists: No list as of yet
Recent recruitment chatter: Even before the Paolo Banchero news this week, the Blue Devils appeared to be trending in the right direction for Paul VI (Va.) five-star Trevor Keels. Though his 247Sports Crystal Ball continues to sit empty, it’s worth noting that the 6-foot-5 sniper has taken an unofficial visit to Durham, coinciding with the Senior Night win over North Carolina in March. Also, he’s the former backcourt teammate of Duke freshman point guard Jeremy Roach.
Factoring all that in with what Banchero told ESPN’s Paul Biancardi following his Thursday announcement, let’s just say things are looking increasingly sweet for Duke’s chances in the Keels race (not to mention the final predicted piece coming up next here):
“My two main ones to join me and [AJ Griffin] are definitely Patrick Baldwin and Trevor Keels. I just got done texting with Trevor a couple of minutes ago, so those two are my two that I’m focusing on…They’re both people I would love to play with, so hopefully, we can get that done.”
Here’s what Banchero added about Keels in particular as well as this realistic dream class in general:
“I’ve been playing against Trevor since seventh grade…We’re both fierce competitors…I think me and Trevor coming together, along with Patrick and AJ — on top of the great players who are already there — I think we can really make a push and win a national championship.”
Sounds like a plan that Keels might be unable to pass up.
Predicted month for Duke commitment: November
