Sign that Duke basketball product Cassius Stanley should shine: SHOOTING

Outside of the spectacular slams, Cassius Stanley showed a solid all-around game. He is still improving as a jump shooter but was able to show at Duke that he has a nice outside touch. He shot 36 percent from three and close to 53 percent on 2-point shots. Overall, Stanley shot 47 percent, as the team’s third-leading scorer.

Stanley is not a guy that you want to take the bulk of the shots. In the NBA, he won’t have to. He is not a guy that needs a lot of touches or shot attempts to be effective, which will make it easier for him to carve out a role.

The numbers show that Stanley likely projects to be more of a slasher rather than an outside shooter. As a Blue Devil, he would often utilize a spin move to help get into the lane and finish around the basket. Being a slasher is more fitting for Stanley given his insane jumping ability. With that being said, I believe Stanley will continue to improve as a shooter. He has good form, the ability to create space for himself, great elevation on his shot, and maybe most importantly, confidence.

Stanley showed that he could be a knock-down shooter in a game against Virginia Tech in late February, where he knocked down five threes on seven attempts. Overall, he showed to be a solid offensive contributor, averaging over 12.6 points in 27.4 minutes per game. Stanley finished the season as one of the ACC’s leaders in true shooting percentage.
