Duke basketball: Predicting where Blue Devils land in 2020 NBA Draft
By Matt Giles
A 2020 mock draft for Duke basketball players: Cassius Stanley
- NBADraft.net: No. 40 overall
- NBA Draft Room: No. 27 overall
- Tankathon: No. 36 overall
- Fueled by Sports: No. 33 overall
- CBS Sports (Matt Norlander): No. 21 overall
- AVERAGE: No. 31 overall
Scouting report (via Matt Norlander): “I think Cassius Stanley can be one of the surprises of draft night, in terms of where he’s picked vs. the general prognostication on where he goes … a top-three athlete in this draft … great form and boost on his shot … has the tools to become as good of a defender as he wants to be … I think his role in the NBA will necessitate a commitment to being both a good on-ball and in-the-lane defender … his talent and athleticism lend itself toward getting to the foul line. I’m in.”
Feeling from Ball Durham: If nothing else, the jet-like flights and picture-perfect flushes of Cassius Stanley could sell tickets (assuming, of course, some normalcy returns to the sports world). Yet taking into account his ho-hum height, wingspan, and iso moves for his position, it seems the 2019-20 ACC All-Freshman Team selection has the least stable draft stock of the Duke bunch; i.e., an unbelievable showing at the combine could turn the 20-year-old into a mid-first-rounder, but he could just as easily fall toward the bottom of the second.
PREDICTION FOR CASSIUS STANLEY: No. 31 overall (as it stands now, the Dallas Mavericks would own this pick)
