A 2020 mock draft for Duke basketball players: Tre Jones

Scouting Report. 185 pounds. Tre Jones. 434. Pick Analysis. 6-foot-3. G. player

Scouting report (via Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer): “Floor general with an unselfish, team-first playing style … shades of Mookie Blaylock, Cory Joseph, Chris Duhon … a reliable playmaker in pick-and-roll and transition … plays with control and discipline … improved shooter … lockdown defender against guards with advanced technique fighting over screens … not an improviser who breaks down defenders off the dribble and generates magical passes … lacks burst off the dribble and explosiveness as a leaper.”

Feeling from Ball Durham: One would think a franchise with backcourt needs and a late first-round pick would jump at the chance to snag Tre Jones, a potential defensive spark off the bench on Day One. And considering the growing role and unrivaled assist-turnover ratio the past two years from his brother, former No. 24 overall pick and current Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyus Jones, the 20-year-old feels like a safe choice. Nevertheless, expect other prospects’ flash to bump the 2019-20 ACC Player and Defender of the Year (also Mr. Clutch) to the second round.

PREDICTION FOR TRE JONES: No. 32 overall (as it stands now, the Charlotte Hornets would own this pick)
