Four leading contenders for Duke basketball target Trevor Keels: Tar Heels
With offers still out to seven highly-rated 2021 prospects between point guards, combo guards, shooting guards, and small forwards, it’s obvious North Carolina head coach Roy Williams anticipates a significant overhaul on the perimeter next year. Yet as Corey Evans of Rivals recently pointed out, like the next program on this list, the Tar Heels have some considerable uncertainty as to who will stick around from the 2020-21 squad:
“North Carolina will have some holes to fill along the perimeter with there being a fair chance Caleb Love goes the one-and-done route. UNC is involved with Kennedy Chandler, D’Marco Dunn, and Hunter Sallis, while it has continued its discussions with sophomore guard Skyy Clark, who could reclassify later in the year…”
Despite the abundance of offers and even the potential for a logjam in the UNC backcourt if Love opted to come back, Evans did touch on a couple of advantages Williams may enjoy in his chase of Trevor Keels:
“…There is a major shot-making need that Keels would be slated to fill…even though Kerwin Walton and Puff Johnson should help, another capable ballhandler would not hurt. Former school teammate [to Keels] Anthony Harris remains in Chapel Hill, but he will have to work a little overtime to help the Tar Heels make up ground [for Keels].”
Possibly to the detriment of UNC’s shot in the recruitment, the last college hoops game that Keels witnessed in person was the one in Cameron Indoor Stadium on March 7 when the Blue Devils handed the visiting Tar Heels their 17th loss of the season…
