Four leading contenders for Duke basketball target Trevor Keels: Wildcats
Just two weeks ago, Rivals insider Corey Evans noted why he viewed Villanova as the leader for Trevor Keels:
“Hailing from the Washington, D.C. area that has always been kind to Villanova with Kris Jenkins, Josh Hart, and Justin Moore, Jay Wright would love nothing more than to see Keels become the next to suit up for the Wildcats from the region. Villanova will have a major need in the backcourt next year with Collin Gillespie graduating and have reserved a spot for Keels to see time immediately…”
Presumably, that reservation may now be less set in stone in light of two backcourt pledges in the past six days alone, which boosted the Wildcats class to No. 1 in the country. Though Evans didn’t discount Wright’s pursuit, he did explain this week that adding four-star shooting guard Jordan Longino and three-star point guard Angelo Brizzi — not even including the June commitment from four-star wing Trey Patterson — could come back to bite the head coach when it comes to Keels:
“There was a point earlier in the spring when Keels was close to committing to Villanova, but the Wildcats could face a more difficult path in landing him after its two recent guard commitments.”
