Former Duke basketball star Justise Winslow announced that he will not play in the NBA’s resumed season because of an injury.

Fans will have to wait a little longer for the return of former Duke basketball star Justise Winslow as the Memphis Grizzlies forward announced he will not take part in the NBA’s resumed season after suffering an injury to his hip.

Winslow said he sustained the injury during a scrimmage on Tuesday night and called the injury a “contact injury”.

Neither the team nor the player revealed the exact extent of the injury.

The former Duke basketball one-and-done already had his season severely shortened because of injury, so it’s a sad but fitting that this is how he season will officially come to an end.

Justise Winslow made the announcement on his social media platforms, and that was then followed up by a press release from the team that confirmed the news.

Winslow has yet to play as a member of the Grizzlies after being acquired at the NBA Trade Deadline by the Miami Heat in a deal that sent NBA Champion Andre Iguodala to the Heat.

Fans were also looking forward to seeing Justise Winslow back on the floor with his former Duke teammates and National Champions Tyus Jones and Grayson Allen.

Prior to the suspension of the NBA season in mid-March because of the coronavirus pandemic, Winslow was limited to just 11 games this season, all with the Heat, due to back injuries and concussions.

In those 11 games, he averaged 11.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 38.8 percent from the field.

As the Memphis Grizzlies were continuing to train and practice for the resumption of the season, the time off gave Winslow the chance to become fully healthy and help keep the team in the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Memphis currently holds a lead of three and a half games over the New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trail Blazers, and Sacramento Kings for the No. 8 seed as the team will get its eight-game regular season started on July 31 against the Trail Blazers.

There is no timetable on Justise Winslow’s injury, but he said that the injury will keep him out until next season and that he is focused on coming back “100% healthy”, and the team confirmed that he is expected to make a full recovery.

The NBA has not yet set an official date for the start of the 2021-22 season, but the hope is that Opening Night will be somewhere around December 1.
