Predicting where each Duke basketball recruiting target will land
By Matt Giles
Predicted the landing spot for Duke basketball target Patrick Baldwin Jr.
Five-star 2021 small forward Patrick Baldwin Jr.
High School: Hamilton (Wis.)
Height and weight: 6-foot-10, 205 pounds
Composite ranking: No. 1 overall, No. 1 small forward, No. 1 in Wisconsin
Scouting report (from 247Sports analyst Brian Snow): “Has great length and an excellent frame to add weight…can play either forward spot…There aren’t many prospects who have the combination of skill, basketball IQ, size, and athleticism. Has gotten significantly better off the dribble…Add in that he is a son of a coach who has been around the game his whole life, and Baldwin checks nearly every box you could want out of a prospect. Looks like he will develop into an NBA lottery pick.”
Finalists (10): Duke, Georgetown, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Northwestern, UCLA, Virginia, Wisconsin, UW-Milwaukee
Insider chatter (from Corey Evans of Rivals): “For the most part, I see things coming down to Duke and Milwaukee with Baldwin, though Kentucky and North Carolina could have a shot, too. Does he say no to Coach K so that he can play for his father [at Milwaukee]? It is definitely in the realm of possibilities.”
Decision timeline: Baldwin Jr., whose Crystal Ball has unanimously favored the Blue Devils ever since summer 2018 when he became Mike Krzyzewski’s all-time youngest offer recipient, has said he won’t trim his list again. Months ago, his plan was to announce this summer, but he has since expressed that current world conditions may have pushed that back.
