Top Duke basketball fantasy players since 1981: Shane Battier, 2000-01

Almost a decade after Christian Laettner’s historic Duke basketball season, power forward Shane Battier eclipsed Laettner’s player value with 37.4 fantasy points per game during the 2000-01 NCAA Championship season.

Battier, across his final season in Durham after arriving as a premier recruit out of Michigan four years earlier, had fewer points per game (19.9), rebounds per game (7.3), and assists per game (1.8) than his fellow Duke great at No. 9. However, the 2000-01 Associated Press Player of the Year averaged 2.1 steals per game, 2.3 blocks per game, and a minuscule 1.5 turnovers per game to best Laettner by just 0.3 player points overall.
