Duke basketball: The six programs with perfect records against Blue Devils

Undefeated versus the Duke basketball program: St. Peter’s
5. St. Peter’s
Current conference: Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
All-time winning percentage: 49.5 (780-795)
NCAA Tournament record: 0-3
Record against Duke: 2-0
- March 18, 1968, Postseason NIT quarterfinals, Madison Square Garden (New York, N.Y.): St. Peter’s 100, No. 10 Duke 71
- Dec. 27, 1971, ECAC Holiday Festival, regular season, Madison Square Garden: St. Peter’s 77, Duke 74
True, many Duke basketball fans now view Madison Square Garden as a home away from home for the Blue Devils, and rightly so considering their 44-25 record in all versions of the venue. Besides, the hoops mecca has been the site of countless impressive wins by the program, three of which came last season (against Kansas, California, and Georgetown).
With all that in mind, what’s fascinating about this list is that St. Peter’s and two more schools to come here snagged all their victories against Duke inside MSG. The latest version of the arena opened in 1968, a month before the Peacocks knocked off a talented group of Blue Devils there — in the second-to-last season under legendary head coach Vic Bubas — at the NIT. A few years later, the same result occurred at the same location.
Needless to say, if the Blue Devils are to ever schedule a third meeting with St. Peter’s, then they might want to play the game somewhere other than MSG.
