Why Duke basketball’s Chris Carrawell should lead the women: FAN INTEREST

2. FAN INTEREST

Let’s be honest: other than a few notable exceptions, such as at UConn and Tennessee, fan support for female college basketball players pales in comparison to that of their male counterparts. While there is no magical solution to attendance and viewership for the women’s game, every program at least has the option to search for its own unique ways to boost the numbers.

In Durham, one potentially successful way to do so would be to hire as the women’s head coach a beloved, recognizable face from the uber-popular men’s program. Enter Chris Carrawell. Fair or not, it’s a fact that the average Duke basketball junkie would pay more attention to the lady hoopsters if a former Blue Devil great under Mike Krzyzewski was in charge.

Even if just a result of heightened curiosity at first, ticket sales and TV ratings for the women would surely rise if Carrawell was roaming the sidelines.
