Duke basketball stars who could’ve starred in football: LB Brian Davis

Without his assertive and-one in 1991 to give giant-underdog Duke a one-point lead with 62 seconds remaining against UNLV in the Final Four, those Blue Devils might not have captured the program’s first national championship. Those Blue Devils relied on Brian Davis for leadership, key screens, crucial rebounds, immeasurable passion, and the list goes on.

One could argue that his mettle, noticeable in his unwillingness to display anything other than lively facial expressions, became the symbol of the ’91 team’s breakthrough success, though he was far from the most talented in the group. Likewise, he was part of the backbone to the repeat champs the next season. All in all, like Nate James, a fierce outside linebacker must live somewhere inside Davis.
