Duke basketball stars who could’ve starred in football: WR Grant Hill

One glance at his money toss to Christian Laettner that led to “The Shot” that sunk Kentucky at the 1992 East Regional Final says Grant Hill could have been a quarterback. One glance at his family tree says he could have been a running back since his father, Calvin, took home NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1969 to kickstart a 12-season stay in the league as a heralded, steady force in the backfield.

Meanwhile, the gracefully explosive play of Grant Hill, arguably the most diversely talented and athletic Duke basketball player in history, says he would have provided the biggest impact as a Heisman-worthy wideout — with the option, of course, to serve as a dynamite centerpiece in a wildcat formation.
