Duke basketball stars who could’ve starred in football: LB Dahntay Jones

How does a player who averages only 5.4 points as a pro manage to produce an NBA career that spanned 14 years from 2003 to 2017? By being a lockdown defender with a winning personality. By being Dahntay Jones. The former transfer to Duke from Rutgers had all the makings of a statement-making middle linebacker.

If nothing else, Jones appeared in the above clip to be auditioning for the role of the cheerleader at football games who does one pushup per point after every score. Put some pads on that 6-foot-6, 225-pound loud, flying Hercules. The result might have been an All-ACC defender standing out in Wallace Wade Stadium around the same time as the program’s 0-for years.
