Duke basketball stars who could’ve starred in football: FS Tre Jones

Clutch daggers, relentless intensity, precision passes, self-assured posture, and natural-leader qualities are all nice and all. Yet at the root of what earned Tre Jones honors as the 2019-20 ACC Player and Defensive Player of the Year were the sophomore point guard’s court awareness and lightning instincts.

All those features to his game could have translated well to the Duke football defensive backfield, right? And I forgot to highlight his dogged determination when it comes to preventing opponents’ scoring opportunities. Need an ideal last line of defense on the gridiron? Well, Jones would be worth a call — if, of course, he was a free safety rather than an NBA-bound floor general.
