The 2022 schedule says it’s time to list potential Duke basketball players.
As is the case every year, starting June 15, the Duke basketball coaches and their counterparts will see a green light from the NCAA when it comes to calling, emailing, and texting the rising high school juniors.
In other words, game on. But before examining 10 such prospects who could soon see their phones light up from Blue Devil suitors, fans should remember five quick notes about the current and potential climate on the 2022 recruiting trail:
- No Duke offers are yet on the table.
- Coaches have been unable to scout anyone in months due to current world conditions and may not do so again for several more months, so they’ll just have to go with dated info when selecting targets.
- At one time, the consensus was the NBA’s one-and-done rule would vanish in time for the 2022 class, but that no longer seems to be the case.
- Apparently, the NCAA intends to lift the ban on student-athletes profiting from their popularity in time for freshman arrivals in 2021, and the oh-so-popular Blue Devils could thereby look even more attractive to top talents.
- Mike Krzyzewski would be 75 years old by the time the 2022 class comes to Durham — plus, his current contract agreement ends next year — meaning the 41st-year Duke head coach is sure to hear the retirement question far more often from these recruits and their families.
