Top 10 impact players for the 2020 Duke football team: KICKER
It’s no secret that former Duke kicker AJ Reed was one of the program’s best-kept secrets. The Alabama native was almost always a sure bet for three points in 2019. Things weren’t always this way, as Reed converted only three of his ten field goal attempts his freshman year.
Unfortunately, the kicker entered the transfer portal this offseason. While Reed transitions to Arkansas for his final season of college football, Duke faces the challenge of deciding on a new kicker. Many may overlook this position, but at the end of the day, a kicker can make or break your season.
Likely candidates to take over this role include seniors Jack Driggers and Matthew Cone. However, sophomore Charlie Ham can make things interesting as they battle for the spot. None of the three have ever attempted an extra point or field goal at Duke. However, Driggers did handle kickoff duties for all of 2017 and half of 2018, and Ham did so in five games last season.
