Top 10 impact players for the 2020 Duke football team: DE Chris Rumph II

While Chase Brice has received most media attention regarding Duke this offseason, people are taking notice of redshirt junior edge threat Chris Rumph II.

The defensive end garnered national recognition when Pro Football Focus ranked the Blue Devil as the No. 1 returning defensive player across all power-five conferences. Following him on this list were TCU safety Trevon Moehrig and LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.

Rumph II starred in 2019, racking up 6.5 sacks and 19 solo tackles. He was the dependable anchor for a defense that certainly had its moments. The Gainesville, Fla., native is truly making a name for himself and bringing the Blue Devils into the national spotlight.

However, this does present a potential problem: pressure.

These preseason honors are great, but Chris Rumph II will undoubtedly have a target on his back. Offensive lines are going to be focused on shutting him down, which when mixed with rising pressure will make things more difficult. On the contrary, I think this will only serve to increase his production and better him as a player.
