Duke basketball: 15 programs who hate Coach K’s success
By Matt Giles
Ranking haters of Duke basketball greatness: No. 9 Michigan
From 1989 through 2002, Duke and Michigan met around exam time every December as part of a home-and-away series. The Blue Devils ruled that series, 10-4, and now rule the overall series, 22-8. It’s no wonder, though, that they stopped scheduling one another annually; after all, the contests were becoming a bit lopsided as Mike Krzyzewski’s teams averaged 100.2 points across the last five such meetings while the Wolverines averaged only 72.8.
Plus, Duke had silenced the Fab Five — thrice — twice during the 1991-92 season, including in the National Championship Game with a 20-point victory, and once again in Ann Arbor the next season. Years later, sour Fab Five guard Jalen Rose accused Coach K of only recruiting black players who were “Uncle Toms” and now continues to seek opportunities to bash the Blue Devils as an ESPN analyst.
Though the two programs have not met since 2013, the Maize & Blue fans and former players alike still seem to simmer with K-related contempt.
