Kennedy Chandler talks Memphis

According to Kennedy Chandler’s comments to Pro Insights concerning Memphis, the Tigers have three things working in their favor: proximity to his house, his childhood fandom, and his longtime bond with head coach Penny Hardaway. Here’s what all he said about potentially staying close to home:

“I’ve known Penny for a long time. I’ve known him ever since I was little. I watched him coach in high school and middle school. I played AAU for his AAU team, and he watched me play. I really have a good relationship with him…I was a University of Memphis fan growing up. My dad used to take me to a lot of Memphis games when I was young…I will always be a fan of Memphis as my hometown team, and I’ll always root them on.”

Two weeks ago, as SI writer Shawn Krest reported, Chandler emphasized during a talk on his local 92.9 FM WSMY Jason and John Show that Memphis has been especially relentless ever since he cut his list:

“The coaching staff has been texting me ever since last week. Penny has been FaceTiming me consistently ever since last week. They’ve been texting me, just building the relationship with me, stuff like that, and saying that I’m going to be a great fit at the University of Memphis.”

Now, as for the school on the other end of Tennessee…
