Duke basketball: Ranking the chances of 10 finalists for Patrick Baldwin Jr.

Soon after Patrick Baldwin Jr. became the all-time youngest recipient of an offer from Duke basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski, his mother, Shawn, spoke to 247Sports about what the offer meant to the family:

“It’s a really special thing…my grandfather went to Duke, so it was special in a lot of ways for our family in general. I’m emotional, I have to say…it was very nice, and it was emotional, I’ll say that.”

Baldwin Jr., who has been hearing from Duke basketball associate head coach Jon Scheyer since middle school, expressed to Rivals how clearly he could envision himself being a Blue Devil:

“I have talked to Coach K and Coach Scheyer; I love the coaching staff. Whenever I went there, the energy was amazing. Even the Cameron Crazies showed great love…so it is definitely an atmosphere that any kid my age would want to play in and want to be in…their facilities blew me away, their NBA players blew me away…It is just a really good program and a really good situation that I think, down the line, I could see myself in.”

It might also help Coach K & Co. that the signature 2020 signee coming to Durham also hails from Wisconsin and played alongside Baldwin Jr. on the Nike EYBL circuit. Here’s what Baldwin Jr. had to say about the recruiting efforts of five-star small forward Jalen Johnson:

“We have been talking off and on about Duke, and he is trying to get me to come there. It has been pretty cool having someone that I played with from my own state go there, pretty much someone in my backyard that was in the same position that I was in a year ago…he could really help me through this.”
