Goldwire vs. Roach, Round Three

The veteran point guard has outstanding assist numbers through three seasons in Durham. In 31 games during his junior year, 15 of which he started, Jordan Goldwire logged 70 assists against just 28 turnovers. That 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio was easily best on the 2019-20 Duke basketball squad. The senior recorded nine games of four or more assists on the season. Clearly, Goldwire will take care of the basketball for a young team.

It stands to reason that if Jeremy Roach is likely to turn the ball over at a slightly higher rate than his veteran counterpart, then he will also have a lower assist-to-turnover ratio as well. Roach is also a more polished and capable scorer than Goldwire so is likely to dish less. The newcomer averaged almost 18 points per game as a senior at Paul VI Catholic and is likely to look for his points over assists next season.

If Goldwire takes care of the basketball and with increased minutes, then he is likely to surpass 100 assists for a season.
