Goldwire vs. Roach, Round One

Duke basketball rising senior Jordan Goldwire has good size at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds. The Norcross, Ga., native is not as flashy as many of his predecessors but is a steadying and consistent floor leader. He often found himself defending larger guards during his junior season and still managed to come up with 46 steals on the year, good enough for 10th in the conference.

Freshman Jeremy Roach, the No. 4 point guard in the 2020 class on the 247Sports Composite, has almost identical size at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. Roach, recruited out of Paul VI Catholic High in Norfolk, Va., has an extremely explosive first step. He can get to the rim against much bigger and more physical defenders and easily finishes through contact.

While I admire Goldwire’s consistency, I love the newcomer’s athleticism for a player his size. His ability to use a devastating crossover to take defenders off the dribble gives Roach the nod over the experienced veteran here.

EDGE: Jeremy Roach

Let’s move on and look at both players’ handles…
