THE SEASON SYNOPSIS
Jason Williams couldn’t hit a free throw in the final minutes of close games, proving to be the 2001-02 Duke basketball defending champ’s demise against Indiana in the Sweet 16. And the Blue Devils lacked solid depth in the paint.
But they ranked No. 2 in the country in points per game at 88.9 despite only six players averaging double-digit minutes. Plus, they ranked No. 5 in the country in steals. Finishers. Shooters. Speed. Experience. Had the looks of another back-to-back national champ up until it didn’t.
