THE SEASON SYNOPSIS
Danny Ferry was no longer around. In his absence, though, Christian Laettner had no problem taking on a leadership role as a sophomore. And his clutch gene first became famous due to his buzzer-beater against Connecticut to send the Blue Devils to the Final Four.
The 30-point loss to Nevada-Las Vegas in the title game, however, was telling of the fact that the Duke basketball program was missing one key championship piece: Grant Hill, who would help grant some wishes in Durham the following season.
